Navigating 2025 Trade Policies
Plascene is leveraging its global partnerships and domestic manufacturing footprint to stay resilient and responsive. With facilities in both Vietnam and the United States, we’re uniquely positioned to adapt to policy shifts while continuing to support our customers with competitive pricing and reliable supply.
🧾 What’s Changing? Understanding the New Tariff Impacts
Plascene has been manufacturing in the USA since 2011, our sister company based in Vietnam, DUYTAN RECYCLING has played a key role in our supply chain to produce sustainable packaging such as rPET for our partners and customers around the globe. We are currently navigating the U.S. government announcement of placing tariffs up to 46% on specific plastic components imported from Vietnam - however a 90-day pause has been placed on this full rate, and a reduced 10% tariff is now in effect for shipments arriving after April 9, 2025.
Key affected items:
- PET/rPET resin – Exempt from tariff (HTSUS codes 39076100 and 39076900)
- Preforms (PET/rPET) – Subject to 10% tariff currently; possibly 46% after July 8
- Closures (PP/LDPE/HDPE) – Subject to same tariff schedule
- Jars (PET/rPET/PP/HDPE) – Also subject to tariffs
🇺🇸 Built in the USA - Our Domestic Advantage
While international trade continues to play a role in our business, Plascene’s U.S.-based manufacturing facility—located in California—positions us to absorb and offset many of the cost impacts of these new tariffs.
We’re actively accelerating plans to expand preform production domestically, minimizing reliance on imported components and safeguarding our supply chain from tariff volatility. This shift also improves lead times and offers a more sustainable, responsive manufacturing model for our clients.

🛠 How We’re Responding
To help manage the impact of the new policy, we’re implementing a multi-layered strategy:
- Expanding U.S. Production: We are working on a plan to begin producing preforms in California, allowing us to reduce dependency on imports and avoid high tariffs.
- Strategic Sourcing: We’re continuing to source exempt PET resin from South Korea and diversifying partners in Saudi Arabia, ensuring a steady supply of raw material.
- Inventory Planning: We’re leveraging our partnership with Duytan Recycling in Vietnam to secure recycled PET reserves and maintain price stability.
🌐 Negotiations in Progress
The Vietnamese government is actively engaged in talks with the U.S. to resolve trade imbalances, and we’re hopeful that a favorable agreement will be reached. If successful, these negotiations could reduce—or even eliminate—the current tariffs.
📅 What to Expect
- April 9–July 8, 2025: A 10% reciprocal tariff is in place.
- Post-July 8: Full 46% tariff may be enforced if no agreement is reached.
- Pricing updates: We are currently evaluating changes and will provide final pricing and effective dates soon.

At Plascene, we’re committed to delivering quality, continuity, and transparency—no matter what the policy landscape looks like. Our dual presence in the U.S. and Vietnam means we can pivot quickly, protect our supply chain, and continue offering the high-performance packaging solutions you expect.
